Tony Cousins resigns as Longford Town manager

Longford Town have announced that Tony Cousins has resigned as first team manager.

Cousins spent six full seasons at the City Calling Stadium after joining in the winter of 2009.

Of those six full seasons spent with the Town, only one, the 2015 season, saw the Dubliner manage in the Premier Division.

By spending six-and-a-half seasons with the midlands club, Cousins became the longest serving manager within the SSE Airtricity League.

He leaves Longford bottom of the Premier Division, eight points behindWexford Youths, to whom a defeat on Friday night proved to be Cousins’ final game in charge of Longford Town.

Upon receiving Cousins' resignation, Longford Town released the following statement:

“Longford Town Football Club are sad to announce that Tony Cousins has resigned as team manager after seven seasons in charge at The City Calling Stadium.

“As the longest serving manager in the league Tony was a fantastic servant to the club culminating in the first ever winning of the First Division and promotion back to the Premier Division of the SSE Airtricity League in 2014 and a sixth placed finish in the 2015 season.

“The club acknowledge Tony's efforts over this season and wish him well for the future.”

Gary Cronin will take charge of Monday night's game, at home to St Patrick's Athletic.
