Cormac Raftery leaves Galway United

Galway United have confirmed that defender Cormac Raftery has left the club by mutual consent.

Raftery signed for Galway from Salthill Devon mid-way through the 2014 campaign and became part of the squad which won promotion from the First Division at the end of that season via a two-legged play-off victory over UCD.

He played 13 times in the league as Galway finished tenth on their return to the Premier Division in 2015. The 21-year-old made a total of 20 appearances for the club, but departs having found opportunities limited at Eamonn Deacy Park.

He featured in just three EA Sports Cup games while Tommy Dunne's side have been chasing European football – the Tribesmen currently sit in fifth place in the Premier Division table, one point above St. Patrick's Athletic who participated in this season's Europa League.

The Galway manager sympathised with Raftery in a statement issued by the club and thanked him for his services, praising his professionalism and attitude in the process.

“We would like to thank Cormac and wish him well in his future career. He’s been a great professional to work with,” Dunne told galwayunitedfc.ie.

“Last year, Cormac had more game time. At his age, he needs to be playing. He has a lot to offer and a great attitude, I’ve no doubt that he will continue to improve in the future.”
