Dundalk entertain near neighbours Monaghan United for the second time in eleven days at Oriel Park on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm) - this time in the opening round of this year’s League Cup. The pair have been drawn in Group C along with Drogheda United, Bohemians, Shelbourne and Sporting Fingal, with the winners of this local derby progressing to face one of that quartet.

Both Dundalk and Monaghan have made promising starts to their league campaigns, with the Lilywhites sitting at the summit, just one point clear of their local rivals. Monaghan’s only defeat so far this season came at the hands of the Oriel outfit at the border venue last week when they were easily defeated by 3-0, however, it remains to be seen how many players from that meeting appear here.

Team News: No team news has yet been received from Monaghan United, however, Dundalk boss John Gill has confirmed that he will utilise his squad with one eye on Thursday’s league encounter with Wexford Youths. Youngsters such as Tiarnàn Mulvenna and Stefan McKevitt could start, while Aaron Shanahan, Paul Marney and Paul Smyth could also make the first XI. Striker Robbie Farrell is ruled out through a suspension carried-over from last year.
