Peamount United snap up Lynch and Casserly
With the start of the 2016 Women’s National League little over a month away, Peamount United have announced the signing of two of the country's top midfielders in Galway WFC’s Lisa Casserly and Shelbourne Ladies' Megan Lynch.
Despite playing a pivotal role as Galway finished fourth in the Women’s National League, the club’s best league finish since they entered the league in 2013, Casserly has chosen to head to the Capital after being impressed by what the Peamount management had to offer when she trained with the squad recently.
Lynch, who spent five years with Shelbourne, found her game time limited last season with the League Cup winners and after making only five starts for Shels she has chosen to seek a new start across the city with the ever improving Peas.
Speaking about the two signings, Assistant Coach Pat Trahy told Extratime.ie that Peamount are delighted to have attracted players of the calibre of Casserly and Lynch to Greenogue.
“Peamount United is pleased to have signed two of the biggest prospects in the Women’s National League to to add to their development squad and we believe that these additions will help us challenge for league glory in the coming season.
“In addition to our youth policy and planning for the future, we believe that these two signings are a major addition to the long term goals of Peamount.”
Commenting on her move, Lynch explained that it was hard to leave Shels, but it was something she had to do.
“It definitely wasn't an easy decision” she revealed to Extratime.ie
“You form a close bond with the club and I've had to leave a lot of close friends, but I had to think about myself and what’s best for me going forward.
“I felt Peamount could really help me as a player so I was delighted when they were keen on having me in the club.
“I've loved the training so far and I've a lot of friends there who have helped me settle in very quick.
“Peamount is a new challenge. It's a fresh start and something I am really looking forward to. I honestly can't wait for the season to start now.
“It's going to be tough though. There's a lot of places up for grabs and a lot of talented players at the club and being brought in but I'm excited to see how it goes and I'm ready for the challenge.”
Despite finding herself being deployed more as a substitute for Shels, the midfielder explains that she believes she has yet to show her through potential at the highest level and, despite the competition for places amongst the Peas squad, she believes the management can get the best out of her and help her to earn a place in the starting line-up.
“I think having a better chance of playing every week was a big reason in my decision. I was getting game time at Shelbourne, but I want to play as much as possible.
“I think at Peamount it's going to be very tough to get into the team, but it's a fresh start and a different challenge to get into the team and I'm ready to fight for my place.
“I am still young, but I want to be playing every week and I feel I haven't really stepped up to the mark in the national league yet and shown my real ability.
“I feel Peamount can bring the best out of me as a footballer and I'm just hoping this season coming I can find form and play as well as I can.”
