Gary Hunt named new Wexford Youths Women's Manager
Women’s National League and Cup holders, Wexford Youths FC have appointed Gary Hunt as manager of the Women's Senior side for the forthcoming season. Hunt has been part of the coaching staff for the last two successful seasons, and the club feels he's earned the opportunity to step up and prove that he can handle the managerial role.
Former Youths assistant manager Hunt is clearly thrilled with the promotion. "I'm delighted to have the opportunity to step up to the role of manager. The work done over the previous two years by Will Doyle has been exceptional and I gained massive amounts of experience and knowledge from him, which will keep me going forward.
I am looking forward to the challenge ahead as we are set to compete in three competitions this season, one of which will see the Champions League come to Ferrycarrig Park. Before that the league commences and it’s important that we don't lose sight of those games too. We (players and staff) now look forward to getting back into pre-season action,” Hunt concluded.
Gary Hunt has extensive past playing and coaching experience with Waterford and District League outfit Tramore AFC. He also helped develop the football academy at Shoreline FC, Connecticut, US, while he also recently passed his UEFA A Licence.
In a busy day for the Youths, they were drawn to face BIIK Kazygurt (Kazakhstan), Gintra (Lithuania) and Criuleni (Moldova) in Champions League Qualification Group 7.
Finally, the club revealed that they also intend to appoint a Financial Controller for the Women's section in the very near future, and plans are afoot to put in place a Director of Football that will work towards making Women's football a sustainable project for the club in the long term.
