Galway United release Eric Foley

Galway United have confirmed that Eric Foley has left the club by mutual consent.

The 26-year-old central midfielder made ten appearances for the Tribesmen during his stay, contributing two league goals in the process.

Eric is a product of the Home Farm youth system and signed as a youth player with Celtic in 2006. He spent four years in Glasgow before being brought home by Liam Buckley who signed him for Sporting Fingal in 2009.

Subsequently Eric played with Shelbourne before Mick Cooke took him to both Monaghan and then Drogheda United. Most recently he played with Athlone Town before arriving at Deacy park, where he showed up well in the first half of the season.

Galway United boss Tommy Dunne wished Foley well in his future endeavours: "Eric is a good player, but he felt a return to football in the Dublin area would better suit his personal circumstances and we respect that totally. Everyone at the club wishes Eric well and thanks him for his contribution to the club."

Foley is likely to get fixed up fairly quickly with a new club as he has packed quite a bit of experience into his career to date.
