Dundalk draw Icelandic side FH Hafnarfjordur in Champions League Qualifier

League of Ireland champions Dundalk FC have been drawn against Icelandic titleholders FH Hafnarfjordur in the Second Qualifying Round draw for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League held at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon this morning.

Stephen Kenny’s men were drawn out first meaning that it is understood that the first leg of the tie will be held at Oriel Park on 12/13 July, with the return leg at the Kaplakriki Stadium a week later.

The Lilywhites will surely be happier with their opponents than they were this time last year when they were pitted against the mighty Belarussians, BATE Borisov.

Dundalk also managed to avoid Glasgow Giants, Celtic, as well as FC Copenhagen – both of whom have strong previous Champions League pedigree in today’s draw.

Intriguingly, former Dundalk forward Steven Lennon plays for their Icelandic counterparts. Lennon played for Dundalk under Sean Connor in 2010, however, the Scotsman played only a handful of games before a foot complaint ended his time with the club
