Athlone Town -v- Finn Harps
Athlone Town welcome Finn Harps to Athlone Town Stadium on Saturday night hoping to continue their winning run having dispatched Longford Town twice in a week. (Kick-off 20:00). Finn Harps will be looking to earn their first ever win in Athlone’s new stadium, having previous drawn once and lost twice at the Midlands venue.
Brendan spoke during the week about the two victories over Longford saying "They were two good wins over Longford and that is a hard thing to do over any team in such a short space of time. We have looked through video footage of the games looking for areas we can improve and have worked hard in training on these areas.
On Saturday night’s game he said "I have seen Harps play twice this season and the results they are getting do not reflect how good a team they are and we will need to be at our very best to get something out of this game."
In Athlone Town team news, Place has a couple of injury worries with Des Hope (foot) and Damien Rushe(dead leg) both doubtful for this game along with Robbie Egan (foot) who is definitely unavailable for selection.
Harps boss Paul Hegarty is hoping that past results at this venue will bear no influence on this game. “Athlone’s confidence is certainly up. I suppose you could say that they’re something of a bogey side for us, but that will have nothing to do with it come Saturday night. What we have to do is concentrate on our own jobs and if we can do that then we have a chance.”
In Finn Harps team news, Marc Brolly (torn ankle ligaments) is still an absentee as is goalkeeper Gavin Cullen (ankle). Marc Mukendi is a doubt after he picked up a dead-leg in the midweek victory over Castlebar Celtic, but should be okay to play. Conor Gethins will return to the team after missing the Castlebar game through suspension.
This game will be a special occasion for Athlone Town right back Robbie Hamm as it will be his 100th appearance in the Blue and Black stripes of his home town club having made his first ever appearance in a 1-0 away defeat to Cobh Ramblers on the 20th November 2004
The game kicks off at 20.00.
Extratime.ie Prediction: A draw is the prediction for this game. 2-2.
