Bolger raring to go ahead of massive clash with Dundalk
In what is the biggest game of the League of Ireland season so far, Cork City and Dundalk clash at Turners Cross on Friday night, in a contest which could have far reaching consequences on the league title race come the end of the season.
With Cork going into the game behind the league leaders Dundalk, a victory for the Leesiders is seen as crucial if they want to finally end the dominance of the Louth side.
Among the City players who have impressed in their season so far is Greg Bolger, who has been an excellent addition to the Turners Cross side’s midfield.
Speaking in the Cork International Hotel ahead of Friday’s huge encounter, Bolger described how there is a huge amount of excitement in the air ahead of the Dundalk game.
“These are the games you want to be involved in. I’ve been in a few of them over the years and especially being down here in Cork, given how the club went so close the last two years, it’s a big deal. In the league, it’s defiantly the biggest game I have played in, especially the way the circumstances are.
“Both clubs are after pulling away and we need to stay right there with Dundalk. We need to get a result from this one, because Dundalk are the top team in the country and we are the ones chasing them.
“I think it’s defiantly City’s biggest game of the season. We have a chance to narrow the gap and with European games coming up also, there is still and long way to go in the title race. It’s probably not a must win game just yet, but it will be a game that we want to win and tighten that gap and put the pressure on them.
“Dundalk are the top team, they’ve set the standard and raised the bar in the league for the last few years. We need to match it. If we want to win the league we’ve got to match them on every aspect of the game, fitness, football wise and all that. So we want to win the game, we’re going out to win the game, so hopefully we can get the win.”
Friday’s game is sure to be played in front of a packed Turners Cross, with an absolutely electric atmosphere expected. Bolger has thrived playing his football in front of The Rebel Army to date and he expects the fans to help play their part in what will be a memorable night.
“One of the best experiences since I have been down here was the last minute goal against Derry, with the roar and the shed end going mad. But I think we need the fans to get on Dundalk’s backs and make it hostile for them.
“For us, the atmosphere in the ground will defiantly be a factor for us going forward and trying to win the game. We really need them to make the place noisy from the very start.”
If you are planning on going to a League Of Ireland game for the first time this weekend, then if you can you should make this game your priority, because it will be a thrilling encounter and one which should illustrate everything which is good about League Of Ireland football.
