Longford Town sign striker Cody Mulhall

Longford Town have announced the signing of striker Cody Mulhall.

19-year-old Mulhall was last contracted to Hibernian in Scotland, but left the club in 2015 after sustaining a serious cruciate knee ligament injury.

He was given the opportunity to train with Shamrock Rovers – managed by his former Hibs boss Pat Fenlon – but suffered a repeat of the injury while with the Hoops.

Kildare-born Mulhall again trained with Rovers before the beginning of the 2016 season, appearing in a friendly against UCD, but wasn't offered a contract by the Hoops.

Speaking to Extratime.ie back in February, Fenlon said: “Cody's probably still a bit away in relation to his fitness work.

“He'll be training with the under-19s until we get back [from India]. I think Cody is probably four-to-six weeks away from being where he should be.

“Saying that, he's been out a long time so it's important we don't rush him. He's back training, he's back playing, he's got a taste of football which has been just brilliant for him.”

Mulhall is likely to link up with the Longford Town squad ahead of their visit to St Patrick's Athletic on Friday night.
