Iordanescu names 28-man provisional Romania squad ahead of Euro 2016

Romania manager Anghel Iordanescu has named a 28-man provisional squad ahead of UEFA Euro 2016.

 

The squad will meet up for their pre tournament training camp next Wednesday at their base of Saint-Vincent Valle d'Aosta in Northern Italy.

 

This is in preparation for games against DR Congo in Como on May 25th and Ukraine in Torino on May 29th, before the final 23 man squad for the tournament itself is named on May 31st.

 

Although the training camp begins on Wednesday May 18th, lordanescu will be without five of his players for at least some of the camp. Defensive midfielder Ovidiu Hoban is on the cusp of a league title in Israel with Hapoel Beer Sheva as the Israeli season concludes on May 21st.

 

The side's main playmaker, Alexandru Maxim, will remain focused on club matters as he hopes to play a major role in VFB Stuttgart remaining in the German Bundesliga. Anything but a victory away at Wolfsburg on Saturday condemning the five-time German champions to a relegation promotion play off against Nuernberg.

 



Florin Andone, who plys his trade at Spanish Second Division side Cordoba still has a couple of league games to contend with but will link up with the national team prior to his club's final league game of the campaign on June 5th.

 

Ludogorets trio Cosmin Moti, Andrei Prepelita and Claudiu Keseru have already wrapped up the Bulgarian league title but may remain with The Eagles until the conclusion of the season on May 29th.

 

Romania begin their UEFA EURO 2016 Group A venture with a tie against hosts France on on June 10th in Saint Denis before a clash with Switzerland in Paris on June 16th and finishing off their group campaign against tournament debutants Albania on June 19th in Lyon.
