Students of the game have room to improve
UCD made it six wins from six tonight as they comfortably saw off Shelbourne at Tolka Park but extratime.ie March Manager of the Month, Martin Russell, was not getting carried away. “I thought we could have passed it better at times, especially at 2-0,” he said.
“I’m delighted with the result, and the performance. We were positive from the start, we put pressure on them. We had to keep our discipline.”
Asked whether this was his side’s best win to date, Russell reluctantly agreed.
“Yes maybe so. We had to fight, battle and then play some ball. So…yes,” he added.
Ronan Finn, Man of the Match, agreed with his manager, in that even this performance could be improved on.
“I’m always critical. There were times when I thought we could have passed it better in the first half. Their goal might have given them a bit of rally, at 2-1, but then it was a stupid red to give away. Then, obviously when it they went down to nine men it got easier for us.”
“It’s early days yet, but things are going well. There is certainly more to come,” he said.
