Irish Daily Maily FAI Senior Cup 2016 Second Round Draw
The draw for the second round of the 2016 Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup was made on Tuesday evening at the Aviva Stadium, the venue for the final next November.
The reigning holders Dundalk will begin their FAI Cup defence against Shelbourne at Oriel Park,
“We got Shels at home last year in the Second Round and went on to win the cup so hope it’s a good omen,” said captain Stephen O’Donnell speaking after the draw about their succesful 2015 cup campaign which began with a 5-1 win in Tolka Park.
“We don’t want to be one of the shocks in this round so we’ll have to be fully focused. We may have caught them on an off day last year so can’t take anything for granted.
“The Cup Final is the biggest day of the Irish football season so we’d love to go back there again.”
There will be only one all SSE Airtricity Premier Division clash. That will see Galway United will travel to Dalymount Park to play Bohemians.
Ireland international and FAI Cup winner with Saint Patrick’s Athletic Keith Fahey helped with today’s draw and his former club, the 2014 winners, St. Pat’s will face Pike Rovers from Limerick.
Last year’s runners up Cork City will be hoping to go one better in this season’s competition and they begin their campaign battling it out with St. Peter’s of Athlone.
There will be at least two non-league teams in the third round as Ringmahon Rangers play Glebe North and Janesboro will welcome Sherrif YC to Limerick.
The 2013 winners Sligo Rovers will meet Cabinteely for the first time as the Dubliners travel to the Showgrounds while Derry City attempt to bring their fine league form into the cup when they face Drogheda United.
The 24-time record FAI Cup winners Shamrock Rovers, without a win in the competition since 1987, have a home draw against Munster Senior League side Midleton.
