FAI charge Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians following Dublin Derby trouble

Shamrock Rovers secured a memorable victory in Friday night’s Dublin Debry over their rivals Bohemians, but the it is the events off the pitch which have made the headlines in the days following the encounter at Dalymount Park.

Crowd trouble overshadowed the game, with a number of fans invading the pitch following the fourth Rovers goal with the Garda Public Order Unit being forced to intervene and stop the scuffles which broke out between a minority of hooligans near the corner flag.

Following on from Friday’s events, the Football Association of Ireland has decided to charge both Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers, confirming the news in a statement released today.

“The FAI utterly condemns the behaviour of a number of individuals who were involved in the disturbance at Dalymount Park.”

Both clubs have been invited to a disciplinary hearing in FAI HQ in Abbotstown on Wednesday, April 20th.

Bohemians have since released another statement of their own, which reads: “Bohemian FC wish to reiterate our total condemnation of the incidents that interrupted Friday’s Dublin derby with Shamrock Rovers at Dalymount Park.

“The club has worked tirelessly in recent years to strengthen our relationship with the local community and many community groups in an effort to make Dalymount a welcoming and sociable home for all. It is deeply disappointing to the many volunteers of Bohemian FC that a one-off incident of idiocy and thuggery by a tiny minority has overshadowed those efforts.”
