Friendly Report: Bohemians 4 - 1 Athlone Town

Bohemians finished their pre-season with a comfortable 4-1 win over First Division side Athlone Town at Dalymount Park.

Despite a shaky start, the Gypsies somehow managed to kead 2-1 at half time, as goals from Keith Buckley and Ismahil Akinade cancelled out Emeka Onwubiko's early opener for Athlone.

Kurtis Byrne and Derek Prendergast added two more after the break to seal a comfortable win for Keith Long's side.

The Midlanders took an early lead when Onwubiko's shot easily found its way into the top left corner of Lee Stacey's net.

Athlone probably should have made it two soon afterwards but Daniel Molloy's header didn't hit the target. The visitors could not convert a good first half performance into a second goal.

They were punished in the dying minutes of the first half when Onwubiko's goal was cancelled out by Buckley's tap-in, and moments later Akinade headed home at the back post from a Lorcan Fitzgerald cross.

Bohemians made some half time changes and made it look easier in the second half. Byrne slotted the ball between Conor Mackey's legs and Prendergast finished the scoring with 20 minutes to go.

Bohemians kick off the new season away to Cork City on Friday night, while Cabinteely host Athlone Town on Friday night at Stradbrook.
