McNulty commits future to Cork City
Cork City have announced the re-signing of veteran goalkeeper, Mark McNulty, on a two-year contract.
The deal will see the Ballincollig man past 14 years at the Leeside club and in speaking to his club’s website the shotstopper reveals that he believes the future looks bright for the 2014 and 2015 League Runners-up.
“You can see the club is going places since John has come in. The club is on the up, I’m absolutely delighted to sign another deal and hopefully we can add some trophies!
“The players John has brought in are top quality players. We had seventeen clean sheets last year and the year before and, we will be aiming for that again this year. No matter who plays, we have quality players and we will be looking to keep clean sheets; the more of them you keep, the more chance of winning games and winning leagues.
“When you’re winning medals and lifting trophies, you think it’s going to happen every season, but unfortunately for us, it has been a while now since we have done that. John keeps reminding us about it and it is a big year for us; there are trophies there to be won and hopefully we can pick up one or two of them.”
John Caulfield has also understandably been delighted with McNulty since the former UCC boss made his return to the Rebel Army as manager.
“Mark has had two fantastic seasons for us, keeping seventeen clean sheets in each of the last two years. We’ve had a phenomenal defensive record and he has been part of that. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper for the club and, from my point of view, I am hoping that he can keep many more clean sheets.
“We have two very good keepers in the squad, but Mark is in pole position because he has been outstanding for the last number of years, particularly since I have come in. In the squad, you have Mark, Benno (Alan Bennett) and Colin (Healy); three Cork lads and three very experienced guys and they will be the backbone of the squad. They are very important guys behind the scenes as well.”
