Sligo Rovers sign Chris Lyons
Sligo Rovers manager Dave Robertson has made a move to improve his side's attacking ammunition with the announcement that Chris Lyons has been added to the Sligo squad.
The 22 year old striker has shown plenty of potential over the last few seasons, which will excite Sligo supporters for the upcoming campaign.
Last year he was with Bray Wanderers, where he was a regular presence in the side. Prior to that, he has had spells with UCD, Bohemians and with Shamrock Rovers’ one-season First Division squad.
Speaking following the announcement of this latest signing, the Bit O’Red boss Robertson sees plenty of promise in Lyons overall as a footballer
“Chris is a player that I see a lot of potential in,” said Robertson. “I have seen that his link-up play in particular is excellent.
“We will work with him during the year to add more goals to his game but he is fully committed to the club and to working to improve. I think he will be an excellent player for us in the coming year.”
In the past, Lyons has played out on the wing and in the centre of the midfield, but it is up front where Robertson plans to get the most out of him.
“He will give us good versatility in the attacking areas of the pitch but primarily I see him as being a striker for us this year. He has a great attitude.
“When doing my research everyone I spoke to about him spoke very highly of him, both as a player and as a person. I think he will contribute a lot to our team this year.”
Lyons will be playing in a Sligo side, who have plenty of ambition and will be keen to be one of the most competitive in the league over the coming season ahead.
He will be joining up with a squad, which already includes the likes of Micheal Schlingermann, Gary Boylan, Tim Clancy, Regan Donelon, Raffaele Cretaro, John Russell, Gary Armstrong, Jimmy Keohane and Kieran Sadlier.
