Sean Maguire signs for Cork City
Cork City FC have secured the services of forward Sean Maguire, for the 2016 season after his spell with Premier Division Champions Dundalk.
It is a move which is sure to improve Cork City's attacking options, as they seek to go one step further next season, than their 2nd placed finishes over the past two years.
Maguire, who started his career with Waterford United before a move to West Ham United came about in 2013, saw his opportunity to gain playing time limited at Dundalk.
The 21 year old also has had spells on loan with Sligo Rovers and Accrington Stanley, while he has also lined out for Ireland at under 17 and under 19 level.
Speaking following the announcement of his signing, Maguire said,
“I have heard a lot of good things about the team and the togetherness at the club. It’s a massive club, the fan base is massive. I remember coming down here with Dundalk and there were three or four thousand there, even though it was a nothing game, and I am really excited. The past six months, I haven’t played as regularly as I thought I would have. I need to be somewhere that I am playing and enjoying my football; I think things will take care of themselves and I think I will be happy here.”
While giving his thoughts on Maguire's signing, City manager John Caulfield said he feels he will be a key addition to the squad.
“I’m very happy to have signed Sean. He’s hungry, he’s a goalscorer, very good at linking up the play, has a lot of pace and is a good finisher.
“His all-round game is good, though he is still quite young, but he has played quite a few games here. He wants to come into a hungry group and he is keen to succeed.”
