Cork City sign Kenny Browne
Cork City have announced the signing of defender Kenny Browne from St Patrick's Athletic with manager John Caulfield hoping that his latest signing can help City improve on their second placed finishes in both 2014 and 2015.
The 29 year old has won every major domestic honour during his distinguished career, making over 100 appearances for The Saints.
Speaking following the announcement of his signing, Browne said he is really excited about the new challenge that awaits him with the Turners Cross club.
“I’m thrilled to get it done; I can’t wait to meet the lads and get started on working hard for pre-season. For me, this is probably the biggest club in Ireland. Cork City definitely have the biggest fan-base and Turner’s Cross has always been my favourite away ground to play at. I am really excited, it’s a massive football city and there is massive potential there. I just can’t wait to get down and get going.
“As soon as I spoke to John (Caulfield), I liked his manner, the way he deals with things. He’s straight up with you and that’s what I want. I’m excited, I wanted a new challenge. I have been in Dublin for the last four or five years, so when Cork City came in there was only one place I wanted to be.
“As a club, the target has to be to win the league, it’s as simple as that. Looking in from the outside, I don’t think Cork City is a million miles away and, if we can add a bit more to the squad and keep the best players here, there’s no reason why we can’t win the league.”
Browne's move comes fresh off midfielder Greg Bolger also moving to Leeside from the Inchicore club.
Cork City will be looking to continue strengthening their squad over the coming weeks, with the club hoping to add to their talented pool of players in advance of pre-season getting underway in January.
