FIFA Women's Player and Coach of the Year shortlists announced

The FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year and FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football shortlist was announced earlier today. The awards recognises both players and management for their performance in the calendar year of November 22nd 2014 to November 20th 2015 inclusive.

The most notable absentee from the player list this year is Brazil playmaker Marta who previously won the award consecutively from 2006 to 2010 and was last year's runner-up. This year's nominees does however include future stars of the game with Canadian youngster Kadeisha Buchanan making the list. The 19 year old is currently attending university in the United States and has 40 senior caps under her belt which include appearances at this year's FIFA Women's World Cup which earned her the Hyundai Young Player Award and a place within the tournament all-star team.

Germany and France are well represented on the list with two players each. 2013 winner German captain and goalkeeper Nadine Angerer made the list alongside team-mate Celia Sasic who recently won the UEFA European Best Player. Both of whom have recently retired from football. Eugeine Le Sommer and Amandine Henry both made the listing from France. The team mates also played in the UEFA Women's Champions League with Olympique Lyonnais.

The biggest representation is from the FIFA Women's World Cup Championship team the United States. They are midfielder Megan Rapinoe and FIFA World Cup golden glove winner Hope Solo. The most notable on the list is Carli Lloyd who scored a hat trick in the FIFA Women's World Cup Final. Lloyd helped her side atop the podium earning her both individual awards of the Golden Boot and Golden Ball.

Japanese FIFA World Cup finalist Aya Miyama also made the list and Ramona Bachmann of Switzerland. The final voting will be decided by both the captains and head coaches of the Women’s National teams plus International media representatives selected by FIFA. On November 30th the existing list will be narrowed down to the final three.

The finalists will attend the official award ceremony on January 11th 2016 in Zurich where the winner will be announced. Below is the full list of players and coaches nominated.
