Byrne has returned to the Galway WFC squad after a season's absence, the medical student recently represented Ireland in the World University games in Korea. The physically strong centre-back has shown she is also versatile, having also line out in both midfield and up front and if Galway are to continue to strive for success, Byrnes influence could be key to their success.

The Ireland under 19’s skipper who moved to Galway WFC during the summer has shown she has the ability to play at the top level, the centre-back who can also play central midfield enjoyed a season with UCD Waves she was a key part of the Waves defensive line that got to the FAI Cup final.

At just eighteen years of age, the Kerry native has proven she is one of the best defenders in the league and with her continued development, she is expected to show the fans of Galway WFC her true potential which could possibly see her earn a place in Sue Ronan’s National squad during the 2015-16 season.

How they did last season:

League:  Sixth place

Women’s FAI Cup: Quarter-final

League Cup: Semi-final

What to expect this season:

After a season, which saw Galway win just record just three victories, the Westerners will be hoping to improve their record and Manager O’Riordan has showed his signal of intent with some very strong signings, which could see his side challenge for a top four finish.
