McNamara, Carroll and O'Brien re-sign for Cork City Women
Cork City Women have today announced that Megan Carroll, Nathalie O’Brien and 2014-15 Cork City Women's Player of the Year Ciara McNamara have re-signed for the Leesiders ahead of the 2015-16 Continental Tyres Women’s National League season.
During the 2014-15 campaign, both McNamara and Carroll impressed with their defensive displays for the Cork outfit and both will be hoping that the new additions to the squad will help to continue the development of football in the Rebel county.
"For this season I'm hoping we can get off to a positive start which I know we can build on throughout the year as the quality is definitely there in Cork.” McNamara told corkcitywomensfc.com
“I am delighted to be signing back again this season - The fact that I was selected as player of the year last season, has given me an extra incentive to improve even more this year. The introduction of new management has created a great buzz around training which is hopefully a good sign for the season ahead - Niall and his team have been very good so far.
“I'm also very impressed by some of the players so far that have come in, they've been excellent in training so far. We have our sights set on the game on Saturday and we can't wait to get going"
Carroll, was also quick to emphasise McNamara’s comments about the atmosphere within the squad and the full-back revealed she was delighted to returning to the Cork outfit for a third season.
“I’m delighted to be back again for a third season with Cork City W.F.C., it’s always an honour to be playing at the National League level. There’s a great atmosphere around the training ground looking forward to upcoming cup game and the season ahead – especially the first home game against Kilkenny on Sunday week where we hope we’ll see a large home support!”
Nathalie O’Brien will be hoping that the 2015-16 season will provide her with a clean bill of health after the right-back missed a large period of the previous season, after suffering an unfortunate leg break and she concedes it was hard to watch on from the sidelines, but she is stronger for the setback and cannot wait to get back on the pitch.
"I'm buzzing for the new season to kick off on Saturday. I've been looking forward to this day since the season ended last season. There's been a great atmosphere around the team since we all joined back for pre-season a few weeks back, with new management and top quality players joining us.
“Last season was a season to forget, not having played many games due to a broken leg. Although it is something that made me stronger as a player and a person, and I'm looking forward to seeing what this season brings and getting a few wins under our belt."
