O'Donovan the latest addition to Cork City Women's FC

Cork City Women FC have today announced former underage International Kate O’Donovan as the latest addition to their Women’s National League squad ahead of the 2015-16 campaign which begins next month.

The young midfielder had come through Bandon AFC ranks and last season she was a member of the Cork City WFC academy and now makes the step up to the WNL squad after impressing.

Speaking about the move O’Donovan is delighted to have signed for the Leeside outfit, but she is also quick to praise the club’s academy for helping her develop over the previous twelve months.

"I am very happy to be signing for Cork City” She told Corkcitywomensfc.com  “I've played all my schoolgirl's football so far with Bandon and last year I was on the Cork City Women's Academy and I really think the academy brought me on an awful lot as a player.”

Despite the signing only been announced this afternoon, O’Donovan has been training with her new teammates for several weeks and she is delighted with the set-up that the new management have installed.

"I've been training with Cork City Women's for the past few weeks and the set-up here is great. The sessions are excellent and all the coaches are very encouraging. There are a lot of top players in the squad so I'm delighted to be asked to be a part of it, but I know I will have to work really hard to make sure I get my place in the team.”

Speaking about the addition of O’Donovan, City boss Niall O’Regan said "We’re delighted to have Kate in the squad – she was with our academy last season and impressed throughout, while I would know Kate personally from her association with Bandon A.F.C. where she excelled at a youth level culminating in an Irish Youth call-up.”

Cork City W.F.C. have also been drawn against Shelbourne Ladies U18 in the FAI Women's Senior Cup First Round Draw. The game is scheduled to take place in Tolka Park on the 29th August at 2pm.
