EA to sponsor League of Ireland Cup
Gaming company EA Sports has been confirmed as the new title sponsor of the League of Ireland Cup.
The competition will now be known as the EA Sports Cup.
EA Sports has agreed to sponsor the competition for the next two years. As part of the deal agreed with the Football Association of Ireland, the company will also benefit from signage and promotional opportunities involving the League of Ireland.
Welcoming the sponsorship announcement, FAI chief executive John Delaney said: “I am delighted to welcome EA Sports as sponsors of the League of Ireland, and title sponsors of the EA Sports Cup. Having already announced Newstalk, The Irish Daily Star and eircom as top tier sponsors, as well as Boylesports, Umbro and Lucozade Sports as official partners, today’s announcement sees further investment into the League of Ireland. EA SPORTS have been great partners for our game at all levels and today’s announcement takes that relationship one step further.”
Dan Holman, marketing director of Ireland for EA, commented: “EA is delighted to be teaming up with the FAI as title sponsors of the EA Sports Cup. The sponsorship of the EA Sports Cup demonstrates our genuine commitment to Irish football. The inclusion of the League of Ireland in FIFA 08 and 09, Ireland’s top selling sports videogame of the past two years running, has been a great success. Now, in conjunction with the FAI, we look forward to continuing our commitment to the promotion of the game at all levels, from our grass roots sponsorship of tournaments for school boys and girls to the illustrious EA Sports Cup.”
