Cook looking for improvement
Sligo Rovers go into Saturdays home game against St Patrick's Athletic
looking for their first win of the season.
On the opening weekend they needed a last minute goal from substitute Stephen Parkhouse to earn a point against Cork City. That was followed by defeat last Friday against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght, a game where Paul Cook's side never really got going.
As expected, Cook had no problem telling things like they were when he spoke to extratime.ie - "We wanted to spoil the party at Tallaght, but we didn't deserve anything from our performance. I had no problems with the result, Shamrock were brighter all over the pitch."
The former Southport manager continued - "We make a point of being truthful at this club and we just didn't deserve anything from the game. Its as simple as that."
Sligo were missing the suspended Alan Keane for the game in Tallaght, as well as defenders Mauro Almeida and Chris Butler. Keane is available for selection on Saturday against St Patrick's Athletic, but Cook will be without the services of the other pair for some time - "Mauro is going to be out for another few weeks, at least a month probably, and it will be a while until Chris is back also."
Looking ahead to Saturday at The Showgrounds and the visit of St Pat's, Cook is looking for an all round improvement from his side - "We can play a hell of a lot better, and will have to do that against Pats if we are to get anything from the game"
He continued - "I'm sure Pat's had someone at the Shamrock game having a look at us, but we were very poor, so I doubt they learned much!"
Sligo Rovers play St Patrick's Athletic at 8.00pm on Saturday. As always, extratime.ie will be there!
