Limerick FC -v- Athlone Town AFC

League leaders Athlone Town travel to Jackman Park to take on Limerick this Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm) looking to maintain their winning start to the season. Limerick may well have a permanent manager by the end of next week, however, the current setup with Mick Shields and Paul O'Donnell has worked well so far.

Winning form
Athlone are table toppers with a 100 percent record after two games, keeping Shels and UCD behind them on goal difference following wins over Mervue United and Kildare County. Limerick’s opening day loss away to UCD was quickly forgotten last week when they too beat newbies Mervue to leave both sides confident of another three points here.

Goals galore
Last season, the four fixtures between the two sides were tight affairs with Limerick winning one and the other three ending in draws. Athlone’s Emeka Onwubiko will be looking to add to his tally of two goals in two games, as will Noel McGee who, if selected, will be making his 99th appearance in the blue and black. Limerick, having scored four last week, will surely be confident of bagging a few as well.

Cummins crocked
On the absentee front, Limerick's Paul Cummins fractured a bone in his foot during the win over Mervue last Friday and could be out for up to six weeks. Athlone boss Brendan Place has a full squad to choose from with Damien Rushe again available for selection after being suspended for last week's win over Kildare, while Robbie Benson also returns after a spell away with the Irish Senior Schools team.
