Limerick sign Shaun Kelly and Patrick Kanyuka

Limerick have completed the signings of Shaun Kelly, who makes his return after leaving last year, as well as Patrick Kanyuka following his successful trial. 

Shaun Kelly, who previously had a three year stint at the club, has made his return on an 18 month contract.

The Killybegs native moved to Derry at the end of the summer window last year and went onto make 24 appearances for the Candystripes. However he was released from Derry less than two weeks ago and has now been snapped up by his former employers Limerick, whom he helped win the First Division title in 2012.

Speaking to LimerickFC.ie, Shaun explained his relief of getting the deal done and that he is ready to “fight to the end”:

“It’s great to finally get it all done. I think it was something that was happening for the last few weeks. There were a few times when I thought maybe it wasn’t and then it was again. I’m delighted that it’s finally done and I can get in training with the boys.

“It’s obviously always difficult when you’re bottom of the table. The boys know we need a win as quick as possible. You just don’t know what can happen after you get that one win. Hopefully the results start to change – you just fight to the end.”

As Kelly was putting pen to paper on his return to Limerick, Patrick Kanyuka was completing his trial that would see him make his return to European football.

The former Queen’s Park Rangers centre back was most recently playing in Thailand for Roi Et United however has returned to Europe to help struggling Limerick on a contract to the end of the season.

Speaking to LimerickFC.ie, Patrick, who has also played for Swindon Town, explained that he is excited and ready for the challenge that he deems “doable”:

“I’m excited. It’s my first time in Ireland. I’ve been here for about two weeks and I like what I see regarding the facilities, the club, the players and Limerick.

“First and foremost, I’m looking to win on Saturday and get a little run going, and help the team get out of the sticky situation that they’re in.

“It’s doable. I’ve seen the league and the ability of the players. They need a little bit more experience which I think I can produce. Whatever happens at the end of the season, we don’t know, but first we need to get out of this situation.” he concluded.
