Four goals in a whirlwind nine minutes saw Bohemians seal all three points against Derry City on Friday night in their Airtricity Premier Division clash. Ismahil Akinade was directly involved in two of the goals, he made the third for himself and played a perfectly timed ball to Keith Buckley to beat the Derry City offside trap. Paddy Kavanagh played the ball across the box from the left to Akinade. He took the ball on his chest and somehow got around his marker to shoot it into the bottom left corner of the Derry net.
The opening goal was scored by Derek Prendergast who headed home from close range. Paddy Kavanagh took the corner on the left across the box to Mulcahy. He headed the ball back across goal for Prendergast to score his fourth goal of the season.
Robbie Creevy became the Gypsies' 12th goalscorer of the season in the 20th minute. Kealon Dillon had a shot from distance but it was drifting wide of the left post. Creevy stepped in to flick the ball into the back of the net.
Bohemians lost their pace later in the half with Derry getting more into the game. Cillian Morrison hit the woodwork twice in the first half. He hit cross bar with a right footed volley from the edge of the area and later hit the post, again shooting from distance.
Akinade was stretchered off just before half time with a shoulder injury. Between the loss of Akinade's energy and with the concession of an early goal, Bohs were on the back foot as Derry pushed forward during the second half.
Mark Timlin scored both of Derry's goals. His first into the bottom right corner, the second into the bottom left corner. Dean Delany was left with little chance of reaching either shot. Delany wasn't to be beaten a third time by Timlin, his fingertips pushed a headed ball away from the top left corner.
Bohemians are now 14 points ahead of Bray Wanderers in the Airtricity League Premier Division. Derry City are five points adrift of Drogheda in tenth place but there is still time for them to claw themselves out of the relegation battle. The Candystripes host Longford Town next Friday while Bohs travel to Cork City.
