Athlone Town -v- Kildare County
Kildare County are the visitors to Athlone Town on Saturday night as they hope to build on their solid performance against Finn Harps last week (kick-off 20:00). The game will be Athlone Town’s new manager, Brendan Place, first competitive home fixture since taking over the reins from Dermot Lennon.
Team News
Athlone have no injury worries but will have to cope without Damien Rushe who serves a one match suspension for bookings picked up last season with Longford Town and Robbie Benson who is away on international duty with the Irish Senior Schools Team in Scotland.
Aaron Shanahan the former Dundalk FC goalkeeper is available for selection after agreeing terms on Monday night.
County will be without goal scorer David O’Riordan for the next four weeks due to ligament trouble and also out is Matty Byrne with a chest infection.
Alan Lynch and Daithi Garry will be in the panel having signed this week.
Injury wise, Karl Hegarty, Colin Murray John Flynn and Orrin Farrell are all progressing well and are expected to be in contention for a place in the team within the next fortnight.
No Place for Complacency
Town manager Place is not going to linger on last week’s result and is aware of how much of a threat Kildare can be after watching their opening game.
“We got a decent start last week against Mervue United but it’s only one game. I have spoken to the players and told them we can predict nothing in this division and nothing will come easy”
“I watched them last week against Finn Harps and they were very competitive. They liked to do things very quickly when the chance was there and we will have to be at our very best against them”
The game kicks off at 20:00.
Extratime.ie Prediction: Another 1-1 draw for Kildare County.
