Finn Harps vs Longford Town
Finn Harps welcome Longford Town to Ballybofey on Saturday night with both teams looking for their first win of the campaign (kick-off: 19:45).
Drawn Games
Last week, Finn Harps scored a late equaliser through David McDaid to rescue a point against Kildare County. Manager Paul Hegarty was happy with his side’s performance and believed they were capable of taking all three points.
“It was two points dropped to be perfectly honest. We played well in the first half after we settled down after the first ten minutes. We were playing into the wind and the rain but we still brought the game to them. We hit the post and had a few other half chances as well.”
“To be fair, it wasn't a bad performance by any matter or means, but I think we should have taken all three points.”
Longford Town on the other hand let a three goal lead slip, eventually holding on for a point at home to Monaghan United. Talking to www.ltfc.ie, Town manager Alan Gough admitted his side were lucky to come away with any points.
“We were fortunate to come away with anything,” he admitted, “obviously we had that dream start but we’d watched Monaghan a couple of times and knew Mick Cooke would have them up for it. We conceded three, had a man sent off and there was a penalty claim at the end so maybe we were lucky to earn a point.
Team News
Finn Harps Manager Paul Hegarty has a fully fit squad to choose from. Mark Brolly, who had a slight hamstring strain ahead of last week’s draw in Kildare, wasn’t fit enough to start but came on as a late substitute.
Hegarty, therefore, is unlikely to make too many changes and it could be the same starting line-up as that which played out a 1-1 draw at Station Road last Saturday.
Manager’s comments
Hegarty is aware Longford can be a threat as shown in the three minute spell when they scored three goals last week.
“Longford have a very experienced team and they will come here fancying their chances so we need to be prepared properly for them. Last week, they opened very well and scored three early goals, which proved what a threat they can be, so we know what to expect from them. It’ll be a tough game and a different challenge from the one that we faced last week.”
Gough doesn’t unrated Finn Harps either. “Finn Harps were relegated from the Premier Division last season and were able to keep the core of that team together so they will be very experienced.”
Extratime.ie Prediction: Harps played well last week, whilst Longford started well and faded. Expect a closely fought contest, with the Donegal men coming out the victors by a scoreline of 2-1.
