Kelly delighted to have bagged a brace against Dublin rivals

After coming off the bench as a 72nd minute substitute, Bohemians forward Dean Kelly scored twice as the Gypsies secured a 3-1 victory against Shamrock Rovers at Dalymount Park on Friday evening. After the game Kelly spoke to Extratime.ie about coming off the bench to earn his sides a precious victory in the Dublin derby.

“I’m delighted” he revealed, “it’s unbelievable, I was gutted to be on the bench but I think the gaffer [Keith Long] done the right thing because my knee still isn't 100 percent. He took it out of my hands, I wanted to play but listen I was on the bench and I came on and scored two goals.”

When asked if it was nice to bag a brace against an old club, Kelly recalled that it was not the first time that he’d scored against the hoops but to do it in a game of this magnitude was huge.

“It’s always nice to score against them [Shamrock Rovers], I scored against them when I was at Shels, but listen it means more when you're with Bohs and it's a big deal”

Upon questioning on the severity of his injury, Kelly explained it was not too serious and he would have relished the opportunity to start tonight's game, but the attacker was also aware that the injury would have prevented him from playing the full ninety minutes.

“It is a bit of ligament damage, I’m still suffering with it and I don't think I would have lasted the full game. I was happy to come on for 20 minutes, I really wanted to start but listen I couldn’t as my knee isn't right.”

After suffering defeat on Tuesday evening against St Patrick's Athletic, Kelly was over the moon to get the back to winning ways, but he was not pleased that his side have been forced to play three fixtures in seven days.

“Yeah listen it’s great” he said “the Dundalk win was great, we had a hard week, it was a bit ridiculous to throw the three games in at once, it is what it is and we are delighted”
