Buckley delighted to see Fagan back amongst the goals

On Tuesday evening, Liam Buckley watched on as his side secured three points in the Dublin derby with a 3-1 victory against Bohemians at Richmond Park. After the game a joyous Saints Boss spoke to Extratime.ie about his side’s victory.

“I’m delighted” he revealed “I thought the boys played well this evening and created quite a few chances, we kept good possession of the ball, while I thought we played really well.”

Although scoring three very good goals on Tuesday evening, Buckley was quick to praise not just his attacking players, but also his defenders who limited the visitor’s opportunities with a strong defensive display despite conceding from a set play.

“We’ve done well defensively, we limited them to very few opportunities, but that been said they scored from a corner, which would have been disappointing from our point of view.

“Equally going forward we have been very very good with the ball, we passed it well and linked up very well creating lots of chances.”

It took Christy Fagan twenty two minutes on Tuesday to return to the scoresheet after a drought that stretched back to March 13, the Saints boss was delighted to see the former Manchester United Youth player amongst the goals.

“As a front man, having played there myself it is important to be scoring as you're judged by your goals,” Buckley explained.

“But in fairness to us[St Pats], it's important position as you have your back to goal and are linking up with other players. He [Fagan] does that really well, but I'm just delighted he bagged a couple of goals this evening.”

With St Pats being a full time club, competition for places is extremely high and two of Tuesday’s substitutes Jamie McGrath and Conor McCormack had a positive impact on the game after their introduction to the delight of the Saints Boss.

“Jamie McGrath had done particularly well for us, we’ve throwing him up front but he can also wide right or left, a top quality player.

“While Conor McCormack is a fantastic young talent who can play in several different positions, he’s played right back or centre midfield, we've got a very good squad in my point of view.”

Although currently on a run of good result, Buckley is fully aware that his side must build on the momentum they have gained when they host Limerick FC at Richmond Park on Friday evening.

“Yeah we have done well” he said “obviously beating Shamrock Rovers in the cup here a few weeks back and beating Derry City away, Bohs at home here. We’ve got Limerick at home on Friday and if we can pick up another three point it gets us a little bit closer to the teams ahead of us.”
