Limerick FC -v- Mervue United
Recently promoted Mervue United travel to Limerick in their first ever away match in the League of Ireland First Division. Having lost their first game last week at home to Athlone Town, Mervue manager Johnny Glynn will be looking for his side's first points of the season. (Kick-off 7:45p.m)
Managerless Limerick FC will also be looking to secure their first points of the 2009 campaign, after their opening day defeat away to recently relegated UCD.
Despite the resignation of manager Mike Kerley and the opening day defeat, Limerick players remain confident of having a successful season. They have held onto the majority of last season’s squad with the notable exception of Gary Sheahan and Peter White, who have both signed with Wexford Youths.
Mervue United are expected to make the short trip to Jackman Park with a full squad to choose from which includes ex-Limerick players Nigel Keady and David Goldbey. Despite the fact that Mervue United are new to the League, it is important to note the experience in the Mervue squad. Johnny Glynn has done very well to put together a squad with League of Ireland experience, which is vital in Mervue’s bid for survival.
As it is the first ever meeting between these two sides, there is no previous meetings to report on, but Limerick FC must not underestimate the Co. Galway side. They will be hard to break down and will be determined to get their first points on the board.
The game in Jackman Park kicks off at 19:45 and Extratime.ie will bring you all the news and goals.
