Four goals from Katie McCabe earned Raheny United a draw in a hard fought battle with Peamount United in Greenogue on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides began the match tentatively and took some time to settle into the game. It was the visitors Raheny who were first to find their feet creating the first chance of the game thanks to good work from Siobhan Killeen running down the right before playing a cross into the box but Katie McCabe could not find the back of the net.

Raheny continued to push hard for the game’s opening goal with Niamh Walsh and Rebecca Creagh both having efforts on goal before McCabe gave the Pandas a deserved lead. McCabe picked the ball up from a Keeva Keenan long throw in before cutting in from the right and firing past Brooke Dunne in the Peamount goal.

The opening goal of the game sparked an instant response from the hosts. Sylvia Gee had a free kick saved by Niamh Reid Bourke in the Raheny goal before equalising after firing the ball past Reid Bourke.

Peamount pushed for a second goal with Rachel Doyle and Gee both having attempts on goal stopped by Reid Bourke before a last minute tackle from Pearl Slattery denied Clare Kinsella from close range.

On the stroke of halftime McCabe delivered a dangerous pass to Clare Shine, but Shine’s first touch allowed the Peamount defense to clear.

Peamount boss Robbie Mulligan got a dream start to the second half when Kinsella fired the hosts into a 2-1 lead straight from the kick off.

Moments later another mistake from Raheny allowed Hayley Nolan to add a third. 90 seconds later Sinead Taylor thought she’d grabbed a fourth goal when her shot beat Reid Bourke only to come of the post and back into play.

The two quick goals caught Raheny by surprise but the visitors quickly settled back into their play and continued to create chances.

The game’s fifth goal arrived when McCabe slotted home for her second of the game, but Peas quickly restored their two goal lead thanks to Gee’s second goal of the game.

Raheny should have pulled a goal back after Killeen fired wide when one on one with keeper Dunne. Raheny got their rewards for pressure with three minutes remaining on the clock, McCabe fired home her third goal of the game.

The final goal of the game arrived as the game went into injury time after McCabe found herself one on one with Dunne before calmly firing a low shot into the net.

The game ended on a sour note when Raheny’s Shauna Newman appeared to land awkwardly on her back and had to be stretchered off the park causing a ten minute delay.
