Winn heads back to Galway
Galway United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Conor Winn from First Division outfit Finn Harps as The Tribesmen continue to bulk up their squad ahead of the 2015 SSE Airtricity League season.
Winn, who began his career with United back in 2011, finds himself once again back between the posts for the Tribesmen and will be looked to as cover until he finds his feet and can start to challenge fellow custodians Conor Gleeson and Ger Hanley for the No. 1 spot.
Teaming up with the squad during preseason on trial, Winn has impressed the coaching staff so far.
A talented netminder, he was Harps' main shot-stopper throughout the 2014 league campaign where he made 21 appearances in total.
Speaking to galwayunitedfc.ie heading in to the weekend, manager Tommy Dunne was happy to have confirmed the signing of Winn in time for the start of their Premier Division campaign.
“We’re pleased to bring Conor in to our group, we want as much competition for places as possible at the club.
“Conor has come in, done his work in pre-season with Mark Cobey (goalkeeping coach) and earned himself a deal, it’s up to him now to push on and make the jersey his own.”
Confirmation of the 22-year-old's capture now brings Dunne's squad up to a healthy 22 players, a fact that will please the fans as Galway get ready to start their first foray in top-flight action in four years.
Continuing their pre-season plans, the club have so far recorded a number of good results against Finn Harps, Athlone Town and NUIG – with their preseason clash against UCD at Fahy's Field recently cancelled.
