Derry sign free agent Clucas
Derry City have announced the signing of Seanan Clucas this morning with the former Northern Ireland U21 international arriving as a free agent after a spell with Linfield earlier this season.
The 22 year old midfielder also has experience in England playing 45 games in the Football League between 2011 and 2014 beginning with Preston North End, a loan spell with Burton Albion and two seasons with Bristol Rovers in League Two before returning home with Linfield at the start of the 2014-15 season where he lined out 12 times for The Blues in the Irish League but was released on the 10th of January, deemed surplus to requirements by Warren Feeney after featuring mainly as a substitute in the first half of the season.
Dungannon born Clucas who joined up with Derry after impressing Candystripes boss Peter Hutton as a trialist in a friendly game against Crusaders in Belfast on Monday night with Derry running out 4-2 winners against the Irish League leaders.
With eleven Northern Ireland U21 caps and Football League experience Clucas should bolster the youthful Candystripes midfield and brings the number of players at Hutton’s disposal for the coming season to 19.
Having signed immediately after the final whistle in last night’s game, Clucas is contracted to Derry until the end of July with the option to extend his stay at the Brandywell further.
The Derry faithful won’t have long until they can see their new man in action and they must hope he can hit the ground running as their season begins in earnest against Galway United on the 6th March.
