Oji hoping to settle quickly in Galway

Having just signed a contract with Premier Division new boys Galway United, centre half Sam Oji wasted little time in setting goals for both himself and his new teammates.

The much travelled former Arsenal youth was relieved to have gotten his immediate future sorted out, and the 6" 1 defender will provide some much needed physicality and experience to what otherwise could be a young and lightweight United back four.

“It’s been going on for a while now and a few things came up in the off-season, but I’m glad to say it’s finally done and dusted and I’m ready to go now," Oji admitted.

“It’s always good to settle into a new club as quickly as you possibly can and get to know the personalities, to build and gel together.

“Whoever I’m playing alongside in defence, I’ll look to get a good connection going, it will stand us in good stead for the forthcoming year."

Oji made 26 starts at the heart of the Limerick defence last season, and is keen to start the 2015 season on the front foot, despite the fact that he will have little more than a week to prepare for the season opener on March 6th when Derry City visit Eamon Deacy Park.

“For any club coming into the Premier Division the prerogative would be to stay in the division, to consolidate, but I don’t think that will be the case this year.

“Obviously you want to amass a number of points that keeps you in this division as quickly as possible whilst trying to play and do things the right way. That’s the ethos here and that’s the ethos I have.

“My mantra is still to try and be the best in the division, I wanted a new challenge to keep the fire in my belly and continue the level of performances that I’ve put in for the year and half I’ve been playing in Ireland."

United manager Tommy Dunne has finally made a headline grabbing signing as the season draws closer, but must be acutely aware of the need for a few more experienced faces to choose from once the Premier Division gets underway.
