Brouder Becomes First Academy Player To Turn Professional
Limerick defender Killian Brouder admitted he “didn’t expect it to go this well” after he became the first player from the club’s Academy to pen a professional deal on Friday.
The centre-half has progressed well since arriving at the club ahead of the 2013/14 Under-16 season, having previously played at Newcastle West and Mungret Regional.
He quickly moved into Tommy Barrett’s Under-19 setup, training with the squad before signing for them this season having turned 16 in August.
Brouder has also enjoyed International recognition this term, playing for Tom Mohan’s Republic of Ireland Under-17 team as well as the Irish Schools Under-18s.
And, now the first player to come through the club’s underage system to turn professional, Killian hopes there will be many more to follow in his footsteps.
“It’s big alright; it’s good for the club as well, coming through the ranks,” Brouder told LimerickFC.ie. “Hopefully there will be a good lot of us.
“It feels good, knowing that I’m in around the senior team. I’ll just try to work harder now. I didn’t expect it to go this well, to be honest. I was only hoping to get game-time with the Under-19s this year. I’m getting that and I’m in around the senior team which is good as well.
“I’m pleased with my progress, getting in around the Irish squads and getting very good game-time with the Under-19s. I’m enjoying it. I’m hoping to get a few games under my belt with the first team. That is really all I want.”
