Mahon named as new Drogs Assistant Manager

Pete Mahon has today been announced as Drogheda United's new Assistant Manager. He replaces former Ireland international, Mark Kinsella, who was just recently appointed to the role by new first team manager Johnny McDonnell at the end of last season. However, Kinsella will remain as part of the coaching staff at United Park.

Pete Mahon first got involved as a manager in the League of Ireland over 30 years ago when in 1982 he took the reigns with St. Francis. He spent 16 years there before moving on to manage St. Pats, Bohemians, Belgrove and UCD.

Perhaps one of the most notable achievements of Mahon's management career to date is bringing St. Francis all the way to the FAI Cup final in 1990, beating a Cobh Ramblers team that had a young Roy Keane in the heart of midfield along the way of their remarkable journey.

Mahon most recently managed St. Pats in his second spell in charge of the club from 2009-2011. When he took over the control room in 2009 the club were bottom of the table but he successfully managed to keep them in the division as well as taking them to the final of the Setanta Sports Cup where they eventually lost 1-0 to Bohemians.

Drogheda United travel to the Carlisle Grounds to face Bray Wanderers for their season opener on March 7th .
