Doherty returns to Waterford United
Jack Doherty has signed for Waterford United having spent the second half of last season playing in the blue of Limerick FC.
The former Ipswich Town player was on loan for the first-half of last season with Tommy Griffin’s Waterford and so will be familiar with the surroundings of the RSC. The skillful winger spent the off-season plying his trade with Carrick United.
Doherty impressed while representing the Irish Schools side in the 2013 Centenary Shield and this was the catalyst for his move to Ipswich, along with fellow U19 Sean Maguire, who moved to West Ham.
Ex-Blues boss Paul O’Brien promoted Doherty to the senior squad at the end of the 2011 season where he made his debut away to Limerick. The Carrick-on-Suir native went from strength to strength scoring twice in 13 appearances the following season.
Speaking to the club’s website, Griffin has welcomed the signing of a very versatile, and despite his young age, experienced player to the Waterford ranks.
"I'm delighted to welcome Jack back to Waterford United. Jack is one of our own players who came through our U19s after playing his schoolboy football with Carrick United and Villa FC.
Our priority as a club is to develop and promote our own talented players first and foremost, so in this regard it's great to have Jack back with us. Jack can play on either wing or through the middle and gives us some really good options now.
Jack is still a young lad but now has a lot of experience under his belt and I know he is really looking forward to getting back on to the pitch at the RSC."
