Galway United Secure Young Trio

With just weeks until the start of the 2015 season, Galway United remain busy strengthening their ranks. And on Wednesday night, they revealed they had committed three more players to their squad.

Re-joining from last season are Conor Barry and Cormac Raftery while Antaine O' Laoi comes on board from local Galway outfit Salthill Devon.

All under the age of 19, the trio of signatures highlight the club's continued push to build for the future, and it brings the total number of their squad up to 16 so far.

And manager Tommy Dunne was quick to praise each of the young signings when he spoke to www.galwayunitedfc.ie: “These are three very young players that have come through the systems within Galway.

“Cormac has really come on leaps and bounds. He’s training full time with us and he’s really training well. He’s got a lot to learn but has a lot of potential.

“Conor Barry was introduced a little bit more than the two others last year. We’ve stepped up another level so we’re trying to get these guys up to speed and moving well.

“We see a good future for Antaine in the game, he’s got potential, to what end that potential will lead to, we don’t know but if he continues to train well and work hard then there could be opportunities for the likes of him and lads like Conor and Cormac.

“The three lads are good additions to the group and we hope they can develop at the club and perform well when the time comes,” Dunne concluded.

In all, although their combined experience at this level isn't huge, Dunne's comments hint that they should grow rapidly, and will have an opportunity to impress in the club's upcoming friendly matches against Finn Harps, Athlone Town and UCD.

With the matches coming thick and fast, Barry, Raftery and O' Laoi should provide great cover as important squad rotation players for the team.

It's not yet known just how many more players Dunne is expected to confirm ahead of the start of the season, but fans will likely be fretting over a number of names, not least last season's top club goalscorer Jake Keegan.
