Longford Town bring in Powell

Experienced defender Conor Powell has joined Longford Town for the 2015 season in the Premier Division. The defender recently left Norwegian club SK Vard Haugesund.

Conor joined the Norwegian Division 2 side at the start of the 2014 season after impressing whilst playing for the PFAI Squad in the FifPro tournament that year. He helped Vard reach third place in their league, which runs through the summer just like the League of Ireland, but it wasn’t enough to see them promoted.

Conor has previous Premier Division experience, having played for Bohemians, Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers. His most successful spell came during his five years with Bohs, where he was part of a team that won two League of Ireland titles in 2008 and 2009, an FAI Cup in 2008, and what is now called the EA Sports Cup in 2009.

He would later pick up another FAI Cup medal during his one season with Sligo Rovers in 2011. His last club in this country was Shamrock Rovers, where he made over fifty league appearances in the left back position.

Along with the promoting of Dylan McKeever and Daryl Carrigy from the u19 squad to the first team, Conor Powell’s signing now brings the Longford Town squad to 24.
