Galway United Re-Sign Trio

On Sunday it was announced that Galway United had managed to re-sign Enda Curran, Connor Gleeson and Aaron McDonagh.

Having recently announced three pre-season friendlies against Finn Harps, Athlone Town and UCD, last season's First Division promotion play-off winners have been very busy in the off-season.  The announcement of their recent reinforcements strengthens the belief that United are nearly ready for the new season.

Indeed, Curran, Gleeson and McDonagh were all involved in their 2014 campaign and will prove to be great additions to the squad for yet another season – whether or not it will be half as successful remains to be seen, but they ought to provide a timely boost.

Curran scored on his debut against Shamrock Rovers last season but had his season interrupted with injury, while McDonagh only made two appearances for the club. So, it's hoped fans will see more of them this season as they are a truly talented pair.

As for Gleeson, he made 29 appearances and was a solid performer between the sticks for the team from the West coast as The Tribesmen maintained the second-best defensive record in the division, conceding just 23 goals.

In a press release from the club, manager Tommy Dunne was quick to point out just how important it is to have healthy competition in the squad ahead of what's expected to be a tough season.

"The three lads have applied themselves well in pre-season training and I'm happy to have them in our group again for the coming season.

"We are starting to hit that busy period of pre-season now where friendlies are taking place so it's pleasing to tie the lads down and continue our squad building process.

"We are going to need a competitive squad in the Premier Division, everybody has to step up and I'm content with the way our squad is coming together."

With the new season kick-off scheduled for early March, it's not going to be long now until we hear the “United, United” chants emanating from the stands at Eamonn Deacy Park once again.

With more player announcements highly likely between now and then, it's shaping up to be an exciting run-in to their league opener against Derry City on March 6.
