Shelbourne manager Kevin Doherty has made his first signing of the New Year with ex-Shamrock Rovers 'B' left-back Alan Kehoe linking up with the Reds ahead of their forthcoming push for promotion from the SSE Airtricity League First Division.

Kehoe, who last week formed part of the PFAI squad that travelled to Norway for the FIFPRO winter tournament, joins Shels having reportedly attracted interest from newly promoted Finnish top-flight club Kotkan Tyovaen Palloilijat on the back of his performances in the Scandinavian country.

The 18-year-old first joined Rovers in 2012 when he signed for their U19 team from the renowned Sallynoggin schoolboy football nursery St. Joseph's Boys. The Republic of Ireland Youth International performed impressively in his first season with the young Hoops and was subsequently rewarded with a number of call-ups to the senior squad from then manager Trevor Croly who handed the youngster his first team debut in an EA Sports Cup second round clash with Dundalk in May 2013.

Kehoe remained at Tallaght Stadium for 2014 where he lined out with Colin Hawkins' newly formed First Division squad, but with the apparent dissolution of that particular experiment, he parted ways with the Hoops at the end of last season.

In joining Shels, Kehoe becomes the sixth new arrival at Tolka Park to date this winter and in doing so follows in the footsteps of former Rovers second-string teammates Stephen Confrey and Mark Sandford in
making the move from Tallaght to Drumcondra over the current close season period.
