Athlone snap up Limerick duo
Goalkeeper Shane Cusack and midfielder Garbhan Coughlan have signed for the First Division side for the 2015 season, as Athlone try to bounce back up at the first attempt.
Athlone Town will remember Garbhan Coughlan from recent times as he was signed on loan from Limerick twice during the 2013 season by the then in-charge manager Roddy Collins. He went on to play twenty-two times for the Town, scoring five goals, as they won promotion to the Premier Division.
Garbhan returned to Limerick for the 2014 season but made only two appearances for the Blues during the campaign, with them coming against Dundalk and new club Athlone Town. The 21 year old can play as a wide midfielder or up front.
Shane Cusack had been with Limerick for the past four seasons, making his debut for the club in the 2011 season in the First Division, playing in a 1-1 draw with Salthill Devon. He spent much of his time as an understudy for the now retired Barry Ryan but he still made thirteen appearances for Limerick in the past two seasons in the Premier Division.
Cussack and Coughlan now make up a squad of eleven players under manager Eddie Wallace. The team is as follows: Patrick Dunican, Shane Cusack; Aidan Collins, Brian Shortall, Stephen Dunne; Derek Doyle, Thomas Mulroney, Marco Chindea, Garbhan Coughlan; Philip Gorman, Sam O’Connor.
