Quarter Final 1

The first team out of the pot was the most experienced side, FFC Frankfurt of Germany who previously won the competition three times. They are set to play against fresh faced side Bristol Academy of England who are competing in their first Champions League tournament.

Frankfurt won their previous game 9 -0 against ASD Torres to progress to the Quarter-Final stages, where Bristol had a tougher challenge fighting off Barcelona in a 2-1 aggregate score line. Bristol also knocked out Irish hopefuls and Continental Tyres Women’s National League Champions Raheny United earlier in the tournament.

Quarter Final 2

Next out of the pot was current Champions VFL Wolfsburg of Germany. Wolfsburg are currently on a 22 game winning streak in the Champions League and won their previous game 11 – 0 on aggregate versus last year’s quarter finalists SV Neulengbach.

Wolfsburg is set to face Swedish side FC Rosengård (formally FC Malmö) who have been quarter finalist for the previous two campaigns. FC Rosengård progressed to the next stage overcoming Fortuna 4 – 1 on aggregate. FC Rosengård have a host of top quality players in their mix but one name that stands out more than others in the women’s game, Marta is also at their disposal.

Quarter Final 3

Glasgow City FC play host for the first leg of their Quarter-Final draw versus Paris Saint Germain. Glasgow had a tough fight in their previous game, when they scored twice in the final nine minutes of a thrilling tie against FC Zürich Frauen to secure their place in the Quarter Final draw. A special occasion for many Irish football supporters, when Cork born Irish Senior International Denise O’Sullivan steps out in the orange of Glasgow. Denise recently won the Player’s player of the year, fan’s player of year and coach’s player of the year. She is a young talent and one to watch in this fixture.

PSG also had a tough game to progress when they fought off their arch rivals and two time Champion League winners Olympique Lyonnais. A late goal in the closing ten minutes by German International Fatmire Alushi gave PSG a 2 -1 lead on aggregate.

Quarter Final 4

Another Swedish side in the draw Linköpings FC is set to face Brøndby IF from Denmark. Linköpings FC earned their Quarter final spot after overcoming a 3 – 0 loss in Russia vs. WFC Zvezda 2005. Final score on aggregate was 5 – 3, thanks to a five nil home win in the second leg.

Brøndby IF is one of the most experienced sides in this competition having reached more quarter finals than Frankfurt. A similar aggregate score line to their opponents found them in the pot for the draw, thanks to a 5 – 2 victory versus Gintra of Lithuania.
