Galway United Confirm Four Signings
Galway United had secured the services of four of the players that helped them earn promotion from the First Division just a few short weeks ago.
Constructing their squad well ahead of schedule for the new season that doesn't kick-off until March, manager Tommy Dunne has started laying the foundations for a successful season in the top tier.
Goalkeeper Ger Hanley, defender Stephen Walsh and midfielders Alex Byrne and Jason Molloy have committed themselves to the club for the 2015 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season.
No doubt, the fans will be happy with the news that sees United nail down some of their key performers.
And manager Tommy Dunne was pleased to get the players over the line. "It is an important time for the club and it is great to get things sorted with the lads.” Dunne commented. "Ger is still learning and improving as a goalkeeper. I'm hoping he can continue his development at Galway United next season and push hard for a starting position.” he added.
And on the recent capture of Molloy, the Galway chief was equally full of praise. "Jason has experienced Premier Division football with Galway United previously and we all know the quality he possesses. He's a very tricky and skilful player and we're hopeful that he can play a big part in 2015."
Key to any side's development is an adaptable squad that's capable of switching formations around and slotting players into a variety of positions and Walsh and Byrne add exactly that to Dunne's side.
"Stephen did a job for us up front and then later in the season he was a key figure for us at the back. Having a player with Stephen's qualities will be crucial, especially in the Premier Division," was Dunne's verdict.
“Alex impressed when he got into the team and we know that he is a player with potential. This year we had a young group and I feel that Alex was one of those who made a huge impact, especially towards the end of the season," Dunne said.
No doubt, after the heroics of their push for promotion last season, the feeling is that they can do well against the big boys next year, especially if they continue to guarantee the services of their key performers.
