Madden fires Shels to easy friendly win
Letterkenny Rovers 0-4 Shelbourne
In one of only two friendlies involving League of Ireland clubs played on Sunday, on-loan Paddy Madden fired a hat-trick as Shelbourne ran out comfortable winners against Ulster Senior League outfit Letterkenny Rovers.
The 18-year-old striker, who has joined Shels from Bohemians until the end of the season, started the game on the bench, but emerged to add three goals to midfielder David McAllister's earlier spot-kick.
Shels manager Dermot Keely used the game to run the rule over trialist Ciaran McGuigan. Next up for Keely's men, in what has been a busy pre-season, is an away trip to Station Road in Newbridge to take on Kildare County on Wednesday night (7.30pm). Shels then face a challenging final warm-up match against Bohemians on Friday at Dalymount Park (7.30pm).
Shelbourne starting line-up against Letterkenny Rovers: Vinny Whelan, Stephen Quigley, Jordan McMillian, Keith Murray, Ciaran McGuigan (trialist), Derek Doyle, Mark O'Brien, David McGill, Darren Meenan, Peter Hynes, Anthony Flood
Substitutes: Dean Delaney, Robbie Hedderman, Kevin Doherty, Damien Brennan, Dave McAllister, Paddy Madden Elsewhere on Sunday, Drogheda United played out a 1-1 draw with Wayside Celtic at Kilternan. John Paul Kelly spared the Premier League side's blushes with a last minute equaliser after Wayside had taken the lead from the penalty spot.
