Holohan joins the Rebel Army
Cork City have this morning announced the signing of midfielder Gavan Holohan from Drogheda for the 2015 season.
The 22 year old is the second new addition to the Rebel Army in the off-season following the signing of Karl Sheppard from Shamrock Rovers. Holohan was widely considered one of the star players at United Park where he scored five league goals this season, including the goal that gave Drogheda their first ever win in Tallaght.
The creative midfielder almost joined the Leesiders in 2013 when he played the second half for them in a friendly against Leeds United.
Speaking to the CorkCityFC.ie, the former Hull City Youth Team captain revealed how easy it was to come to the decision to move Leeside.
“To be honest, it didn’t take much persuasion for me to come to a club like Cork City, especially after the season they have had.
“Once I spoke to John and he told me his plans, for me personally, and for the team, I wanted to get it done and get it signed as quickly as possible.
“I want to help the team and maybe we can go one better than this season. It would be nice to get a good cup run as well, and maybe win a cup competition.
“Personally, I would like to get as many games as possible under my belt and improve on the season I have had. I hope to chip in with a few goals and help the team push on for the title next year.”
Also speaking to the CorkCityFC.ie, manager John Caulfield was thrilled to sign the Kilkenny native.
“I’m delighted to sign Gavan. He’s been with Drogheda for the last year or so, and did very well there.
“He’s an attacking midfielder, he’s scored quite a few goals, he’s a very skilful player and he gets forward and creates things. It is a real opportunity for him, coming down to a huge club and coming into a fantastic group of players.
“When he puts his head down and works hard, I think he will be a tremendous signing for us.”
Holohan becomes the 10th player to commit to the Rebel Army for 2015.
