Raheny United win the Women's FAI Cup 2014

Raheny United made it three-in-a-row as they defeated UCD Waves by two goals to one in the FAI Continental Tyres Women's Cup final in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday. A sensational Katie McCabe free-kick was cancelled out by an Aine O’Gorman goal but it was Siobhan Killeen who sealed the victory for the Pandas in Extratime to break the hearts of the Waves.

It is an exciting day in the Irish domestic football calendar when both the men and women's game unite in the Aviva Stadium for the FAI Continental Tyres Women's Cup final and the Ford FAI cup final. Raheny United and UCD Waves kicked off the day at the home of Irish football at 12:20pm.

There was spells of possession shared between the teams early in the game but it was Raheny who fired first. Ireland Under-19 sensation and Continental Tyres Women’s National League Player of the Month for September Katie McCabe, once again got her name on the score sheet when she hit a 35 yard laser shot into the upper left hand corner of the UCD frame which gave the Panda's the lead on the 19th minute of the game.

UCD Waves Captain and Irish Senior International Aine O'Gorman pegged the sides level just before the break. Julie Ann Russell's 20 yard strike which rattled the crossbar of Raheny United, eventually found itself at the feet of O'Gorman who curled her shot past Irish international Niamh Reid Burke in the Raheny goal.

UCD Waves dominated most of the second half with two great chances in the opening of the 70th minute mark. Irish International Dora O'Gorman was unlucky with her left footed shot which smashed the corner of the upright and moments later team mate Aine O'Gorman found herself one on one with Raheny goalkeeper Niamh Reid Burke. Niamh Reid Burke came out charging in order to close the space on O'Gorman and stopped the shot with her face on the 74th minute.

A late free kick into the box in the dying seconds of the game by Rebecca Creagh was met by the head of Keeva Keenan but safely caught by the hands of UCD Waves keeper Monica McGuirk. The referee signalled for ten minutes of extra-time to be played in each half.

UCD kicked off the opening half of extra-time and Raheny United introduced an early defensive substitution when defender Keeva Keenan made way for Shauna Newman on the 94th minute.

Seconds later Raheny pushed their noses in front once again when Siobhan Killeen made a darting run from the left wing into the UCD box sliding a low shot under UCD's keeper McGuirk. Noelle Murray was unlucky not to stretch the lead further on the 98th minute when her 30 yard shot hit the crossbar.

Murray found another opportunity fall to her in the second half of extra time when she brought down a corner by Siobhan Killeen onto her chest inside the UCD box, this time lashing it off the underside of the cross bar. The rebound fell to Katie McCabe who also had an attempt on goal but this time it was saved off the line by the head of UCD defender and Irish International Ciara Grant.

Raheny secured their third consecutive FAI Continental Tyres Women's Cup title and were crowned the 2014 Champions.
